Boundaries list
A boundaries list is a written record of the content, requests, and interactions an adult creator will not produce or engage in, used to define the limits of their work and to guide anyone managing or promoting their account.
Purpose[edit]
A boundaries list translates a creator's personal limits into an explicit, referenceable document. Rather than deciding on each request in the moment, a creator sets out in advance which acts, themes, formats, or types of message fall outside what they are willing to do. This supports consistent decisions and reduces pressure to agree to something under time or financial constraints. The list is sometimes paired with a complementary record of what the creator is comfortable with, so that both permitted and excluded activities are documented.
Common contents[edit]
Boundaries lists vary widely and are personal to each creator. They frequently address categories of content a creator declines, communication limits such as declining to share personal identifying details or meet in person, and constraints on custom requests. Some creators specify limits on the platforms where their material may appear, or on collaborations. Because the list reflects individual comfort, two creators in similar work may keep very different boundaries.
Role in account management[edit]
Where a creator works with an agency, manager, or assistant, the boundaries list functions as a reference for anyone handling messages, marketing, or custom orders on the creator's behalf. Clear documentation helps ensure that third parties do not accept requests the creator has excluded. Boundaries are generally understood to remain the creator's to set and revise, and a request that conflicts with the list is typically declined regardless of the offer attached to it.
Wellbeing and consent[edit]
Boundaries lists are commonly framed as a consent and wellbeing tool. Written limits give a creator a stable basis for refusing requests without renegotiating each time, which can reduce burnout and coercive pressure. Lists are not fixed: creators may narrow or widen them as circumstances change, and a boundary may be updated or withdrawn at any point. Content produced within these limits concerns consenting adults only.
